Capital Campaign

Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. What is this campaign raising money for?

Since our founding in 1983, Jackson County CASA has grown rapidly. Our current capacity allows us to serve an average of 1,250 children per year—about 40% of the 3,000 children under the protection of the Jackson County Family Court who would benefit from our support. Right now, we are simply out of space. The Space to Thrive Campaign will enable us to double our physical space. This, in turn, will allow us to recruit more volunteers, expand our programs—and ultimately, provide more support to children who have experienced abuse and neglect in Jackson County.

  2. What is the campaign goal?

The goal is to raise $3.7 million to expand our capacity and space to support more children in need within our community.

  3. What is the length of the campaign?

Due to the immediate need of the community, we have set an ambitious 12-month timeline for the Space to Thrive Campaign. Over half of the children under the protection of the Jackson County Family Court are currently not benefiting from our services, due to our limited capacity. Our fast-moving campaign timeline will allow us to serve those children sooner.

  4. What is the difference between the annual fund and capital campaign?

Our annual fund covers our annual operational costs, though we have a portion of our Space to Thrive Campaign goal geared towards additional support of our new programs and new operation costs that come with the expansion of our space. The remainder of the overall capital campaign goal will be used specifically to acquire, expand, and renovate our new and current spaces.

  5. Will the campaign be completely philanthropically funded?

Yes, funding for the Space to Thrive Campaign will come from a combination of individuals, foundations, and corporate philanthropic donors.

  6. Are gifts to the Space to Thrive Campaign eligible for the Missouri Champions for Children Tax Credit?

Yes, subject to availability. Upon receipt of your gift, you will receive an acknowledgment letter which will serve as your tax receipt. Annual donations of $100 or more are eligible for a 50% Missouri “Champion for Children Tax Credit.” Jackson County CASA is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Your contribution is tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law.

  7. When will the new space be built?

In 2020, we purchased the building next door to our current site. The two buildings will be merged and renovated—doubling our space from 5,000 to 10,000 square feet. We anticipate the renovated space for Jackson County CASA to be in full service in 2022.

  8. How long can I take to pay off my pledge?

We request that all pledges be fully paid off within a 3 year time period.

  9. Who is leading the campaign?

The campaign is led by our Campaign Co-Chairs, Kathy and Gary Bussing and Honorary Campaign Co-Chairs, Leigh and Tyler Nottberg. They are supported by the Campaign Committee Members, our Board of Directors, and Jackson County CASA staff.
